Â
Despite the picturesque pixel art and scenery reminiscent of the iconic cozy game Stardew Valley, Travellers Rest has a surprisingly stressful side to it. A stressful side that can be remedied by cold, hard cash that this guide will show you how to acquire smoothly and as quickly as possible.Â
Â
The chaos of managing a restaurant is fairly accurately portrayed from its ability to make players feel like they’re taking care of a giant room filled with oversized toddlers that vomit, poop, fight, and demand a lot from a poor single tavern owner.Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
But this is where a beacon of light, satisfying in its pursuit shines through; the ability to delegate responsibilities to a reliable team that gives you the freedom to pursue your joys. By being able to make enough money, you can hire many babysitters, giving you the freedom to get hotel rooms, barns, coops, decorations, and make your alcoholic empire rise!Â
Â
Â
Â
So how should one start in making the moolah?Â
Â
Tip 1 Pillage Neighbour’s Nature’s Treasure Trove
You’ll want to move away from serving gruel and water as soon as possible, but you won’t have the money to start buying wagyu quite yet.Â
Â
Wild turkey, wild herbs, and produce from your neighbor’s orchids are all items you can get FOR FREE from foraging that will prove to be valuable early game resources. Either they are key ingredients for pricey dishes or are ways to jack up the prices of your main source of income, beverages. Something that will elevate you to the boozegeoisie class.Â
Whacking the wild turkey a few times with a broomstick gives you valuable meat. Wild herbs give you pepper used in a plethora of recipes. And your neighbors to the south have a treasure trove of orchids.Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
A pro tip is to mine as much iron, and coal followed by stone. Iron and coal will be your bread and butter for creating and running your tavern and stone will be heavily used when you expand your business ventures into overnight hospitality.Â
Â
Â
Tip 2 Exploit the Cash CropsÂ
Your biggest source of income will be from the food and drinks you sell and you’ll also have a farm which will cut down on the middleman costs. But beware, not all crops are created equal. Currently in this version, you AREN’T able to sell crops. The most valuable crops will be those that are ingredients in many different pricey recipes and crops that jack up the price of your drinks the most.Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
The next class of profitable crops would be those that regrow, but be warned, some of the crops that regrow are quite useless, and gradually overflow in your inventory like a tumor.Â
Â
Here are some crops that are good early to mid game: wheat, barely, sugar, beets, corn, eggplants, watermelons, melons, turnips, garlic, onion, potato and tomatoes
Â
Pro tip! Go to the caves at the top of the map and note down which ingredients appear the most in the most valuable recipes.Â
Â
Â
Â
Don’t let the price of the seeds intimidate you! 1 crop creates 20 dishes, and oftentimes you get more than one crop per harvest. You start in spring, and many of the valuable crops above will not grow in the next season, so it would be in your best interest to start building stock as soon a possible.
Â
Â
Whatever leftover income, you could use it to purchase seeds and ingredients for bulletin board quests that give you CASH RIGHT NOW.Â
Â
Tip 3 Infrastructure Flow Â
There are a lot of workbenches in Travellers Rest and it can get quite overwhelming to decide which ones to start building first. As a general rule of thumb, the best infrastructure to build would be the one that currently bottlenecks your profit flow, but there are some fruits you can ferment now that will give you the best reserve in the future!Â
Â
Aging kegs. Make loads of it, and better yet, have it organized in the five bundle formation.
Â
Â
Â
Â
Even if you feel like your alcohol production isn’t currently filling every barrel, you’ll feel it in the future since fermenting the alcohol takes the longest progress. With enough alcohol fermenting in kegs, you’ll have an endless supply of the highest grade (longest fermented) alcohol to serve to customers and complete bulletin orders. These will be the golden geese that lay the golden eggs!Â
The golden ostrich however is once you get hotel rooms! By adding decorations that you either craft or buy, you can jack up the prices of the room so investing in high comfort items would be your best bet. Hotel rooms need a table, light sources, and bed for them to be functional, and even with the bare minimum of decoration, they can still turn over a hefty profit. Just make sure to clean the rooms after the guest leaves cause think about the last time you stayed in a dingy hole in the wall.
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
The other priority item being tables are pretty self explanatory. More people you can fit, the more stuff you can sell. But the one caveat is that you can spread yourself too thin if there are too many children inside and only one adult. Cleaning tables, floors, serving customers, dealing with Karens, if you aren’t able to attend to all these tasks fast enough, you won’t be able to get ‘good reviews’, thus hindering your progression of the game. In the worst cases, you can get bad reviews which will actually decrease your tavern ranking, so make sure you expand when you are able to hire more adults that can feed hangry children.Â
Â
Pro tip:Â Have a chest in every work area since all the workbenches in the area can access the items inside. Your inventory space will thank you!Â
